In Other Worlds - An experimental animation.
Instigated by pandemic isolation, I look to my immediate surroundings for both my materials and my inspiration. From the kitchen, I take food scraps such as onion skin and fennel fronds. I also make use of liquids such as molasses, oil, and dish soap. I bring these together and set them with home decor objects - battery operated tea lights, for example. There is a little manipulation but the movements and swirling of fluids is mostly left to chance. I frame, observe and document these ephemeral moments with a macro lens and animation software. The results are abstracted, scale-less visuals that evoke the biological or cosmological. This is what really interests me: Turning the ordinary into something new and strange.
